About the Texas Association of CPAs
The Texas Association of Certified Public Accountants (TACPA) is a nonprofit, voluntary, professional organization representing Texas CPAs. The TACPA dedicates itself exclusively to the unique interests of CPAs in public practice, including preserving the integrity and enhancing the value of the CPA certificate within the business and financial communities.
The TACPA is committed to helping members meet the challenges and seize the opportunities in public practice.
The TACPA promises to:
- Provide a forum for our members to discuss significant issues openly and freely
- Defend the traditional business of the CPA practitioner
- Recognize that difference of opinion is a resource that is to be valued and respected
- Represent the CPA practitioner before the state legislature and the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy (TSBPA)
- Advocate for the CPA practitioner with the AICPA and the TSCPA
The TACPA has:
- Added more new members during its first year than any other Texas professional CPA organization during the first year.
- Assisted in the campaign to defeat the AICPA's global credential designation.
- Provided a quarterly forum for members to discuss openly and freely significant issues.
- Filed a brief with the Texas Attorney General in support of the Secretary of State's not issuing corporate and lmited liability charters to CPA firms with less than 100% CPA owners.
- Requested a public hearing on a proposed TSBPA rule that would allow the names of non-CPA owners to appear in a CPA firm name. Consideration of the rule was tabled for the TSBPA's current cycle.
- Prepared a position paper on regulation of the accounting profession.
- Become a voice for CPA practitioners with the TSBPA.
- Become an alternative voice to the TSCPA for CPA practitioners.
- Organized a political action committee that was recognized by the Sunset Commission as an interested professional organization with respect to its review of the Texas Public Accountancy Act.
